Leisuretime Learning - Western Springs College

Leisuretime Learning will close at the end of Term One. After thirteen years of delivering Community Education as I must now turn my attention to other endeavours.

Leisuretime Learning was established in 2009 after the withdrawal of government funding from Western Springs College. It has successfully attracted over 1,000 enrolments and delivered over 100 courses each year for seven years.

The success of Leisuretime Learning was made possible by former Principal Ken Havill and the Board: they provided me with encouragement and practical support by making the school's facilities available at cost. I would like to thank them and also the many wonderful tutors who have taught for modest reward and the pleasure of sharing their knowledge.

Thanks also to YOU, my students, who supported this initiative by coming back term after term. Without you I would not have had the enjoyment of leading the Programme.

A $79 million rebuild of Western Springs College has just begun (expected completion early 2019). Once construction is finished new Principal Ivan Davis is very keen to share the school's resources with the wider community and is hopeful Community Education will be hosted once again by the College.

In the meantime, there is a list of other (partially funded) community education programmes here: www.aucklandcommunityeducation.co.nz/

Winding down the programme has begun (accelerated by the demolition of some classrooms). Some courses have been withdrawn this term and so the courses on this website may not be the same as those advertised in our brochure.
